Climate Change Projections for Bioclimatic Distribution of Castanea sativa in Portugal

چکیده

The chestnut tree is an important forestry species worldwide, as well a valuable food resource. Over recent years, Portugal has shown increasing trend in area, increases production, hinting at the socioeconomic relevance of this agro-forestry species. In study, bioclimatic indices are applied to analyse spatial distribution trees mainland Portugal, namely growing degree days (GDD; 1900–2400 °C), annual mean temperature (AMT; 8–15 summer with maximum below 32 °C (NTX), and precipitation (PRE; 600–1600 mm). These assessed for baseline (IBERIA01, 1989–2005) future climates (EURO-CORDEX: 2021–2040, 2041–2060, 2061–2080) under two forcing pathways (RCP4.5 RCP8.5), also taking into account land cover. For baseline, GDD showed only 10% suitability cultivation southern whereas much higher values found north country, altitudes (50–90%). AMT, elevation areas northern show almost 100% suitability. Concerning NTX, reduces from west (100–90%) east (40%). Regarding PRE, heterogeneous throughout territory, 50%. A new Chestnut Suitability Index (CSI) was then computed, which incorporates information four previous indices. CSI reveals ranging 100 75% north, while central 25 climates, progressive reduction found, particularly RCP8.5 long-term period. Changes conditions may restrict narrow area country. reductions have socio-economic ecological implications management

Nutritional quality of chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) cultivars from Portugal

Chemical composition of eight sweet chestnut cultivars from the three protected designation of origin (PDO) areas in the Trás-osMontes region were studied: Aveleira, Rebordã, Trigueira and Zeive from PDO ‘Terra Fria’, Demanda, Longal and Martaı́nha from PDO ‘Soutos da Lapa’ and Judia from PDO ‘Padrela’. Chestnuts were characterised by high moisture content ( 50%), high levels of starch (43 g 100...

Methods and uncertainties in bioclimatic envelope modelling under climate change

Potential impacts of projected climate change on biodiversity are often assessed using single-species bioclimatic ‘envelope’ models. Such models are a special case of species distribution models in which the current geographical distribution of species is related to climatic variables so to enable projections of distributions under future climate change scenarios. This work reviews a number of ...

Multivariate Spatial Analysis of Climate Change Projections

The goal of this work is to characterize the annual temperature for regional climate models. Of interest for impacts studies, these profiles and the potential change in these profiles are a new way to describe climate change and the inherent uncertainty. To that end, we propose a Bayesian hierarchical spatial model to simultaneously model the temperature profile for the four seasons of the year...

Climate change in Central America and Mexico: regional climate model validation and climate change projections

Central America has high biodiversity, it harbors high-value ecosystems and it’s important to provide regional climate change information to assist in adaptation and mitigation work in the region. Here we study climate change projections for Central America and Mexico using a regional climate model. The model evaluation shows its success in simulating spatial and temporal variability of tempera...
